Bondage

Free me.

Unbind these silken chains.

These golden handcuffs chafe so.

Free me.

Release my thoughts from your iron grasp.

Open the door to my heart’s gilded cage.

I’ve read the books,

        cried the tears.

Drank from the river Lethe,

        and from the river VodkaWhiskeyRum.

Opened my body to the faceless.

Prayed to the Nameless.

Yet still you remain.

Free me.

Set me free.

Release me.

So that I may rebuild my burned and ravaged city.

So that I may repave my crumbling roads.

So that I may sow my fields again.
And weep and reap what I sow.
